Well I hate to say it… it is unfortunate… but the fact of the matter is that every podcaster comes to a point where he has a creative block. Moments become hours, hours become days, days become weeks… etc, etc, etc.

As an avid podcast subscriber, I have always hated when a DJ misses a show… don’t they know that we are waiting, patiently waiting, to listen to what they will bring us next? I hate when they do that… oh wait, I am guilty of just that! I am indeed sorry.

I did not post a podcast in January, the very month that the Chill with the Chola podcast turned two years old. I will try to make up for that throughout the year, posting an extra episode here or there if possible, or even better, finding more guest DJ’s to produce mid month episodes.

I finally found my muse after booking a trip to Chicago this coming weekend… I cannot wait! I am headed up to Chicago to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the girl that I love. To be in one of my favorite cities with my favorite person excites me to no end. A city full of romance, UNBELIEVABLE food, scenery, jazz/ blues, etc… I just cannot wait!

This month I have decided to revisit a classic “Chill with the Chola” idea… the Urban Cocktail Hour, inspired by the trip that I am about to make to one of this nation’s finest cities. The Urban Cocktail Hour is about celebrating the music inspired by the big city… jazz, funk, lounge, downtempo, jazzy hip hop… it is all here. If this set does not get your head bobbin,’ I am not sure what will. I hope that you will enjoy this month’s podcast with your favorite libations.

I would like to dedicate one of the most interesting, unconventional, and beautiful pieces of music in this month’s set (Jazzanova’s “Little Bird”) to my own little bird. XO.

Here is this month’s tracklist…

01. Funk Off- Magic Touch

Unfortunately the TextureDJs seem to be M.I.A. Last I have heard, “A few trips to Kenya have gotten in the way of regular podcasting.” I hope all is well fellas, and, I just wanted you guys to know that there are quite a few people out here having withdrawals without our monthly doseage!

If you believe that imitation is the ultimate form of flattery, then lets continue! This month I have put together my own eclectic mix of old and new to come up with my own “vintage 45 sound.” I have found some terrific brokenbeat, funk, and jazz as well as a couple of excellent mashups that will transport you back to more simple times. In fact, I even whipped together a couple mashups of my own for this one!”

Happy New Year my friends! I hope that everyone had a great holiday and that going back to work this week has not sucked the life right out of you. Hopefully the cool sounds of nujazz, broken beat, and hip-hop in this month’s podcast will lift your spirit some if you are indeed feeling a bit down about returning to work.

This month’s episode is quite special… it marks the 1st birthday of the “Chill With The Chola” podcast. Wow, it has gone by so fast I can hardly believe it!

In the past year, this show has grown to almost 5000 active RSS subscribers and averages another 1500 unique page views per month. That makes this site a very strong promotional tool for independent artists and labels and it does not cost them a dime to reach new listeners and potential fans. I am happy to say that this site is cash flow negative on its first birthday… yea, that’s right, NEGATIVE. This podcast is here to spread the word about the music I love, not to turn a profit. I am EXTREMELY proud of that and thank you all for your support. I could not have done it without you, the loyal listener!

This month’s episode is chock full of tastey nu jazz and broken beat, and, it is even lightly dusted with some choice underground jazzy hip-hop. I found a great new website to legaly download electronica this month and highly recommend it. Check out http://www.bagpak.net when you have some time. Quite a few of the tunes in this month’s episode were purchased right there. Enjoy!

Here is this month’s tracklist…

01. Basement Freaks- Shapeshifter
02. Soulphonic Soundsystem- Catalina Sunset (Fort Knox Five Remix)
